ELANDI house

Location:
OCEAN GROVE Site Area / House: 890m² / 376m² Year: 2019 Builder: MJ CHAPMAN CONSTRUCTIONS Project Brief: Shaped around light, spatial flow and everyday liveability, Elandi House centred on creating a calm, contemporary family home with a strong emphasis on functionality. The brief prioritised a clear separation between public and private zones, generous northern light to key living spaces, and a material palette that felt restrained and durable rather than overtly decorative. The clients sought a modern coastal sensibility without relying on clichés—clean lines, warmth through proportion and texture, and spaces that felt composed rather than busy. The design responds through a simple, legible plan that is organised around light and movement rather than excess area. Living spaces are positioned to maximise northern orientation, allowing daylight to penetrate deep into the plan while maintaining a sense of enclosure and privacy. Openings are carefully sized and placed to frame outlooks and encourage cross-ventilation, reinforcing a strong connection between inside and out without compromising comfort. Materially, the house is deliberately understated. A limited palette is used to create cohesion across the interior and exterior, allowing form, proportion, and light to do most of the work. The result is a home that feels balanced and grounded—contemporary in expression, but quiet and enduring in character, shaped more by how it is lived in than how it presents itself. |
