Location:
OCEAN GROVE Site Area / House: 627m² / 351m² Year: 2022 Builder: MJ CHAPMAN CONSTRUCTIONS Project Brief Developed in collaboration with Michael Chapman of MJ Chapman Constructions, Shorebreak 2 is a carefully resolved single-storey dwelling that explores clarity of planning, controlled openness, and a strong relationship to integrated outdoor spaces. The architecture of the home is defined by a low, horizontal form and a deliberate sequencing of spaces, shaped by a brief that prioritised generous communal living alongside privacy and retreat. The plan is anchored by a living spine positioned to the rear of the site, where large-format openings extend the living and dining areas into a series of sheltered outdoor rooms. These connections are calibrated to capture northern light and garden outlooks while maintaining privacy from neighbouring properties. Bedrooms and service spaces are arranged to the perimeter, reinforcing a clear hierarchy between shared and private zones while allowing the primary living spaces to remain light-filled, expansive, and adaptable to daily use. Externally, the house is articulated through a restrained composition of textured masonry, timber elements, and refined cladding, giving it a grounded and durable presence. Internally, consistent detailing, warm material selections, and measured proportions reinforce a sense of cohesion and longevity. Shorebreak 2 House is defined less by stylistic gesture and more by precision, where planning, materiality, and construction work together to produce a robust and highly liveable home. |
